Setting up Private Cloud Using Open Stack - Part 1

Openstack is an open source for setting up private cloud. Using open stack services such as SasS, PaaS, and IaaS can be achieved.

  • Saas - Software as a service
  • Paas – Platform as a service
  • IaaS – Infrastructure as a service


   This can be achieved with the help of virtual box. It is used to setup virtual machines and networks so that the rest of the environment won’t be disturbed. This software is freely available from  for Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux operating systems.

Step - 1

    To create new virtual machine(Ubuntu 12.04) on Oracle VM VirtualBox>New

Step - 2

    Enter a name for the new virtual machine and select the type of guest operating system.

Step - 3

    Select the required amount of base memory (RAM) in megabytes to be allocated to virtual machine normally 512MB.

Step - 4

    Select the size of the virtual disk in megabytes. This Size will be reported to guest OS as the maximum size of the virtual disk.

Step - 5

    To install Ubuntu operating system select the Ubuntu-12.04 .iso file .
